In a strategic move to expand its product portfolio and strengthen its market position in the baking industry, the international food company Dr. Oetker has announced its acquisition of the well-established baking company, Kathi, based in Halle an der Saale, Saxony-Anhalt.

Kathi, renowned for its baking mixes and flour, has found a strong partner in Dr. Oetker during economically challenging times. The acquisition aims to make Kathi "future-proof and innovative," as stated by CEO Marco Thiele, who has welcomed the move.

Dr. Oetker's CEO, Carl Oetker, expressed his delight, stating that Kathi fits perfectly with the values, goals, and strategy of the Oetker family business. The acquisition will allow Dr. Oetker to consolidate its presence in Eastern Germany, leveraging Kathi's established brand loyalty and distribution networks.

Post-acquisition, Dr. Oetker would focus on integrating Kathi products into its broader supply chain, expanding product innovation, and possibly investing in modernizing production facilities to increase efficiency. The company may also seek to introduce new baking product lines under the Kathi brand to meet evolving consumer preferences, including those driven by sustainability and health trends.

The acquisition can lead to increased competition and innovation in the local baking segment. Small and mid-sized baking companies may face pressure from Dr. Oetker’s enhanced resources and distribution capabilities. Conversely, consumers could benefit from a wider variety of high-quality baking products. Additionally, Dr. Oetker’s commitment to sustainability and quality standards may set new benchmarks within the regional industry.

Despite the acquisition, Kathi will continue to be known as "the original from Halle an der Saale" and will remain based in its current location. The production site in Halle an der Saale and approximately 70 employees are to be taken over. The purchase price for Kathi has been agreed to remain confidential.

The acquisition has been confirmed through signed contracts, marking an exciting new chapter for both Dr. Oetker and Kathi. For the latest and detailed information, consulting official press releases or industry reports directly from Dr. Oetker or Kathi would be advisable.

  1. To foster long-term growth and remain competitive in the baking industry, Dr. Oetker may explore incorporating vocational training programs for its employees in various aspects of the business, including finance, lifestyle, food-and-drink, and business management, thereby ensuring a skilled and innovative workforce.
  2. In alignment with its commitment to quality standards and sustainability, Dr. Oetker might consider developing vocational training programs for its employees that address eco-friendly practices and healthy food options to reflect evolving consumer preferences for environmentally friendly and health-conscious products.
