Oberberg Police Crack Down on Motorcyclists: 149 Speeding Offenses in One Day
In a recent operation, Oberberg police checked 350 motorcyclists, uncovering 149 speeding offenses and several safety violations. The campaign, held on Sunday, April 6, aimed to improve motorcycle safety following a year that saw 83 accidents, 4 fatalities, and numerous injuries.
The highest speed recorded was an alarming 112 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. This 'top offender' was caught on the B10 near Remchingen and faces a one-month driving ban, two points, and a 320 Euro fine. Other offenses included riding errors, risky overtaking, and insufficient distance. Two motorcyclists were found under the influence of alcohol, and one was driving without a valid license.
The police also noted that motorcyclists' visibility and speed perception can be challenging for other road users. In the past year, 4 motorcyclists died, 27 were seriously injured, and 55 had minor injuries. Authorities remind motorcyclists to prioritize safety and follow traffic rules.
The Kreispolizeibehörde Oberbergischer Kreis urges motorcyclists to ride responsibly. They advise maintaining safe speeds, avoiding alcohol, and ensuring proper licensing. Press inquiries can be directed to the same authority.
