North Korea peddles its own Buldak Spicy Ramen variant in Chinese markets
In the world of food, imitation is not always considered the sincerest form of flattery. This is especially true in the case of North Korea's food industry, where several popular South Korean brands have found themselves with Northern counterparts.
One such brand is Jolly Pong, a South Korean snack company known for its variety of flavoured crackers. North Korea has produced a knockoff of this brand, with Crown taking on the manufacturing duties.
Another South Korean powerhouse, Samyang Foods, is renowned for its spicy chicken flavoured instant noodles, known as Buldak Ramens. North Korea has a popular imitation of this product, named 'Spicy Kimchi Flavor Bibim Guksu,' reportedly modeled after Samyang's Buldak design.
The food imitation doesn't stop there. Nongshim, a South Korean company that manufactures Onion Rings, has also faced a Northern counterpart. North Korea has produced its own version of Onion Rings, following closely in the footsteps of the original.
These imitations can be found in a modal window, a user interface element that allows for various settings and options to be accessed and adjusted. In this modal window, users can find the captions settings, which can be turned on or off at their discretion. The captions settings dialog can be opened within this modal window.
This modal window is also equipped with an escape function, allowing the user to cancel and close the window at any time. It serves as the end of the dialog window, closing off the options and settings available.
While these food imitations may not match the quality of the original products, they do provide a glimpse into North Korea's food industry and its attempts to replicate popular South Korean brands. Whether this is a sign of admiration or competition remains to be seen.
