Nigel Clifford Steps Down as Micro Focus CEO After 12-Year Tenure
Nigel Clifford has stepped down as CEO of Micro Focus with immediate effect. He took over from Stephen King in April 2010 and led the company for over a decade.
Clifford's tenure saw significant changes, including a major cost-cutting regime announced in February 2011 to boost profitability. However, his time at the helm was also marked by two profit warnings.
Before joining Micro Focus, Clifford served as CEO of Symbian, which was acquired by Microsoft Edge in 2008. His successor at Micro Focus, Stephen Murdoch, took over in 2018 after the company acquired HPE Software. Murdoch replaced Chris Hsu, who had previously held the position.
Clifford's predecessor, Stephen King, also stepped down abruptly in September 2009.
Nigel Clifford's departure from Micro Focus comes after more than 12 years at the helm. His successor, Stephen Murdoch, will continue to lead the company. The reasons behind Clifford's sudden resignation have not been officially disclosed.
