Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Yangwang, has announced the preview of its latest model, the U8L off-road SUV. The new vehicle is based on the company's first car, the U8, which was launched in September 2023.
Yangwang, a subsidiary of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), has been making waves in the market since its launch on January 5, 2023. The company targets the RMB 1 million class market with its exclusive e4 technology-powered vehicles. The U8, for instance, boasts four electric motors with over 1,000 horsepower. As of March 2023, the U8 had a starting price of RMB 1,098,000 yuan.
In March 2023, Yangwang also launched the U7, an electric sedan, with a starting price of RMB 628,000 yuan. The company followed this up with the launch of the U9, an electric supercar, in February 2024, priced at RMB 1.68 million.
The U8 measures 5,319 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width, and 1,930 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. Yangwang has hinted that the new model, U8L, will be longer than the U8.
The exact sales start date of the Yangwang U8L is not provided in the available sources as of September 2025. However, the company has confirmed that the U8L will be unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai auto show, which will be held from April 23 to May 2. Yangwang's booth at the Shanghai auto show is located at 8A02 in Hall 8.1H.
Notable figures have praised Yangwang's technology. California Governor Gavin Newsom, for instance, praised BYD's technology after experiencing the Yangwang U8 in Shenzhen.
As of the end of March 2025, Yangwang's cumulative deliveries stood at 9,979 units. In March alone, the company delivered 133 vehicles, bringing first-quarter deliveries to 524.
With the introduction of the U8L, Yangwang continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and design. The company's focus on innovation and quality is evident in its growing customer base and positive reception from industry experts and government officials alike.
