Prime Minister Modi Introduces Vande Bharat Train from Katra to Kashmir Valley

Gear up, folks! A new era of travel is dawning as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to flag off the Vande Bharat train from Katra, Jammu, to Kashmir Valley on June 6, 2023 [1][2]. The much-anticipated train service promises to bring together the Kashmir Valley via high-speed rail.
Journey Through Transition: Changes in Rail Connectivity
The Vande Bharat train service, previously set to launch on April 19, has faced a slight setback due to inclement weather [5]. Despite the postponement, the service will prove invaluable for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims by easing potential transport hurdles caused by the frequent blockade of the Jammu-Srinagar highway [4].
At the moment, direct Vande Bharat trains from Delhi or other parts to Kashmir Valley are not available. For the time being, passengers can embark on the Vande Bharat train service between Katra and Srinagar (perhaps with a future extension to Baramulla). A transfer might be necessary if traveling from other regions, requiring a change at Katra [5]. As construction at the Jammu Railway Yard progresses and is expected to be completed by August or September 2023, direct services from Jammu to Srinagar will hopefully follow [5].

With more than 209 kilometers of tracks already commissioned, the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line continues to progress. The remaining 46 kilometers between Reasi and Katra have been completed, leading to various trail runs, including that of the Vande Bharat [3].
By recently conducting a series of trials on the Katra-Banihal section and other segments of the track, the Railways are ensuring the train service's efficient and smooth operation [3]. As the dream of connecting Kashmir Valley to Chennai via railway gradually materializes, the people of Jammu and Kashmir can look forward to a new chapter in their regional development [6].
