Woof-Woofs
Plight looms for the canine gang at Langwied as the AWM expansion threatens their beloved dog sports club. The group stands strong, rallying support to safeguard their four-legged family...
Langwied - Paws crossed! Over 1400 paw-prints have been penned, and the pack handed them to the state parliament. But will this paw-tition be the canine community's lifeline or mere bark without bite? The predicament: The club, nurturing four-legged friends on Muhlanger Street for over 40 years, risks becoming homeless due to the planned expansion of the waste facility. Timber! So now they're on a hunt for a fur-friendly new pad, ideally nearby.
Ruff-Ruff, alpha of the Munich-West Shepherd Dog Club, led the charge in the state parliament, delivering the paw-tition. She yelps: "The MPs unleashed a letter to the city of Munich, urging them to liaise with the Free State of Bavaria to investigate available paw-opts."
While some paw-ptions for a new den have been nosed out, they've been more like dud bones: "Sometimes the patches were too tiny, sometimes there was no chow, water, or parking for our pack," Ruff-Ruff reflects.
To build the ultimate four-legged den, a wasteland is needed: supply, fences, greenbacks, a clubhouse. Depending on the territory, this could set them back around 150,000 bones.
Fear of the Fetch: New location could drive loyal pals away
Ruff-Ruff bares another toothsome worry: location, location, location! Depending on where the new pad is, many members may lose their tail as the journey to training becomes too far, the alpha glires. Currently, 26 shepherds and 34 mixed breeds, plus mixed breeds of the 81-strong pack are in training. In addition, around 90 pooches play weekly in nine courses tailored to their needs on the club's premises.
Time's a-tickin'. And anxieties rise. While the AWM has growled that the pack can continue to use the premises until at least the end of 2026, the specter of relocation lingers until a fur-friendly new location is found.
In Munich-West, a dog sports club once bit the dust: in 2017, the Police Protection and Sports Dog Club - the rent became unbearable. Ruff-Ruff hopes a paw-litation will be found that'll leave the four-legged loves of Munich howling with joy.
