Mini-cruise trials taking place near Marienschule in Dieburg
Dieburg Introduces Mini-Roundabout to Improve School Traffic Safety
Starting August 18, 2022, the city of Dieburg will establish a trial mini-roundabout at the intersection of Marienstraße and Klosterstraße, in front of the Marienschule. This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow and ensure the safety of schoolchildren.
The mini-roundabout will be located at the busy intersection, with Marienstraße becoming a one-way street for car traffic from Frankfurter Straße during the trial phase. Cyclists can continue to use Marienstraße in both directions during this period.
Initially, the roundabout will consist of plastic elements secured to the road surface and highly visible markings. A "pick-up and drop-off zone" will also be established to allow children to safely enter and exit cars without causing traffic disruptions or requiring dangerous maneuvers.
Red-marked bike lanes will be implemented as part of the roundabout construction, ensuring a safer route for cyclists. The city encourages parents to allow their children to go to school independently, promoting a sense of responsibility in children and easing traffic conditions around schools.
Meanwhile, the city of Darmstadt is currently analysing the heavy rainfall from July 7 using various data. Additionally, the city has clarified misinformation about the Seewiese flood retention basin.
In a separate development, e-netz South Hesse is dismantling the street lighting on Rheinstraße. The city of Darmstadt had already offered various support measures at the beginning of the forest fires in Bursa, with the city's partner Bursa expressing gratitude in a letter.
The school year 2025/26 will see the completion of the mini-roundabout construction, followed by a trial phase to assess its effectiveness and make any necessary adjustments. This trial phase will ensure the new traffic arrangement functions smoothly for students, parents, and local residents.
The mini-roundabout initiative, currently being trialed in Dieburg, is not limited to school traffic safety improvements, as it may potentially impact other industries such as finance, considering the possible effects on traffic flow and local businesses.
Transportation within Dieburg might experience changes during the roundabout trial phase, not only for schoolchildren and cyclists but also for vehicles utilizing Marienstraße, which will become a one-way street at the trial's start.
