Medibank Hit by Cyber Attack; 200GB of Sensitive Data Threatened

Medibank Group has been struck by a significant cyber attack. The Australian health insurance provider has received messages from an unidentified groupme threatening to leak customer data. Medibank has taken offline its ahm and international student policy systems and data, with investigations ongoing and regular updates promised.

The groupme claims to have stolen 200GB of sensitive information, including personal medical information and data on medical treatments. They have threatened to email 1,000 people their own health insurance information. Medibank has alerted the Australian Cyber Security Centre and is safeguarding its networks and systems. CEO David Koczkar apologized and assured customers of the company's response. Federal Minister for Cybersecurity, Clare O'Neil, reminded Australians to be vigilant about cyber safety.

Medibank Group is working to resolve the situation and protect its customers' data. The extent of the data breach and the impact on customers are still being assessed. Medibank will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
