Malay power company MyPower Corporation welcomes Asdirhyme Abdul Rasib as its new chief executive.
The Malaysian electricity sector is undergoing significant changes, with the Energy Commission implementing a major restructuring of electricity tariffs for Peninsular Malaysia. This change took effect on Tuesday, affecting both network and retail charges, as well as large energy users such as data centers, who now face higher grid costs.
At the helm of MyPower Corporation, the special-purpose agency tasked with organizing key reforms under the Malaysian Electricity Supply Industry (MESI) initiative, is the new CEO, Asdirhyme Abdul Rasib. His appointment was confirmed last week, effective June 23, 2025.
Asdirhyme, a seasoned professional, previously served as the undersecretary of sustainable energy at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra). Prior to this role, he was involved in the government’s nuclear energy programme and the broader low-carbon energy transition efforts in Malaysia, as outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan.
MyPower Corporation has also signed a non-disclosure agreement with Russian state atomic agency Rosatom Energy Projects for knowledge sharing in nuclear energy development. This agreement aims to advance nuclear energy development in Malaysia, which the country is pursuing following the 2018 cessation of operations by the Malaysia Nuclear Power Corp.
The MESI initiative, a long-term reform framework, is aimed at enhancing the reliability, transparency, efficiency, and sustainability of electricity supply operations in Peninsular Malaysia. The initiative, under the leadership of MyPower Corporation, is expected to bring about positive changes in the sector.
Siti Safinah Salleh, the previous CEO of MyPower, was appointed to lead the Energy Commission earlier this year. Her predecessor, Abdul Razib Dawood, assumed the role of executive director at the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE) in line with Malaysia's Asean chairmanship this year.
With these changes, the Malaysian electricity sector is poised for transformation, aiming to provide a more reliable, transparent, efficient, and sustainable electricity supply for all.
