Leapmotor unveils compact B10 model in New Zealand

Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is expanding its presence in New Zealand with the introduction of the B10, the first vehicle in its B series model range. The B10, which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last October, is set to arrive in the second half of 2025.

The B10 is the first vehicle to use Leapmotor's new LEAP 3.5 platform, offering a compact yet spacious design ideal for New Zealand's urban and suburban environments. The vehicle is aligned with what local drivers are looking for - electric, practical, high-tech vehicles with standout design and smart features at an accessible price point.

In its home market, the B10 is available in three models: 510 Comfort, 510 Joy, and 600 Joy. The Joy model, in particular, offers advanced technology, intelligent features, and outstanding value for money. It features 18-inch alloy wheels, power adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, two wireless phone charging pads, a panoramic glass roof, a 12-speaker audio system, an 8.8-inch digital cluster, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Leapmotor claims the B10 is the first EV in its price range to feature LiDAR for driver assist systems. The Joy model in the Chinese market is fitted with a LiDAR sensor, three mmWave radar sensors, two front-facing 8MP cameras, and a separate Snapdragon Ride 8650 processor for advanced driver assist systems.

The B10 510 Joy model in the Chinese market is also fitted with a 67.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a CLTC range of about 600 km. It has a top speed of 170 km/h, 160 kW maximum power, and 240 Nm torque. Fast charging support, liquid cooling, and advanced features like speech recognition, multimedia navigation, automatic air conditioning, seat heating, and ventilation are also included.

However, pricing and specifications for the New Zealand market have yet to be confirmed. Simon Rutherford, CEO at Auto Distributors New Zealand, has confirmed that the B10 will be introduced to the New Zealand market later this year.

Leapmotor is also expanding its retail network across New Zealand. A new dealership in Auckland's Botany suburb has already been established, with more locations expected to follow as the brand continues to grow.

The B10 interior lacks a glovebox and features a shelf in the dash and mounting holes for accessories like tables and phone holders, reflecting the vehicle's focus on technology and practicality.

The Leapmotor B10 is designed to meet the expectations of tech-savvy and eco-conscious consumers, offering a blend of style, performance, and affordability that is sure to appeal to New Zealand drivers.
