Moundville, Alabama is set to undergo significant improvements, thanks to a series of grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Last year, the ARC invested a total of $21.9 million in 51 projects across Alabama, and Moundville was one of the lucky recipients.

The town is set to receive a $12.3 million grant for community infrastructure improvements in the downtown area. This comes as the second round of ARC funding awarded to Moundville this year, following a $500,000 grant received in January.

The funding will be used for renovations to Market Street, including installing new waterlines for both regular use and stormwater drainage. The project is expected to create an upgraded business environment for around 20 local businesses and 20 households.

Moundville Mayor Tony Lester expressed his excitement about the grant, stating that it will greatly improve the aesthetic view of downtown Moundville, potentially attracting and retaining businesses. U.S. Representative Terri Sewell echoed these sentiments, expressing her excitement about the impact the funding will have on the Moundville community.

The renovations will also include installing new street lighting, replacing sidewalks, and replacing fire hydrants. All these improvements are expected to result in improved water services in Moundville.

In a recent announcement, Representative Sewell revealed an additional $800,000 grant from the ARC for the city of Moundville. The exact details of how this grant will be utilised are yet to be disclosed, but it is expected to contribute further to the ongoing development in the town.

The funding from the Arappalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will not only improve the infrastructure of Moundville, but also create an enhanced business environment for local establishments, potentially attracting and retaining more businesses to the town. The additional $800,000 grant awarded to Moundville by the ARC is expected to further contribute to the ongoing developments in the town's finance and industry sector.
