Kroger Honored as a Top Workplace for Disability Inclusion Recognition

American retail giant Kroger continues to shine in the realm of disability inclusion, earning the prestigious "Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion" title for six years running. This recognition comes from the 2025 Disability Equality Index (DEI), a comprehensive assessment tool used by over 70% of Fortune 100 companies.

With over 400,000 associates serving more than 11 million customers daily, Kroger's commitment to creating an accessible and inclusive workplace environment is evident. The retailer operates under various banner names in its retail food stores and is ranked No. 4 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.

Kroger's strong performance across six key areas measured by the DEI - Culture & Leadership, Enterprise-Wide Access, Employment Practices, Community Engagement, Supplier Inclusion, and Responsible Procurement (Accessible Procurement) - is commendable. Companies earning a top score on the DEI are recognized as a "Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion."

Tim Massa, EVP and chief associate experience officer at Kroger, emphasized the company's commitment to offering a workplace where associates of all abilities can contribute, thrive, and grow. Lucy Markovich, Our Abilities Associate Resource Group co-chair and Kroger technology and digital product manager, further noted that Kroger has created a space for every associate to feel included and empowered.

In addition to its focus on disability inclusion, Kroger is also making strides in catering to diverse communities. For instance, the company recently opened a new-format store designed for Hispanic shoppers in St. Louis.

As Kroger continues to adapt and grow in an industry that's only just starting to discover the power and worth of female leaders, it is also setting an example for disability inclusion. The retailer encourages individuals looking for a workplace where their voice matters and contributions are valued to join them.

Nominations are now open for Progressive Grocer's Impact Awards, celebrating purpose-driven pioneers in the grocery industry. Could Kroger be next on the list? Only time will tell.
