Koblenz Ranks 15th in Smart City Index 2025, Shows Progress in Key Areas

Koblenz has impressed in the Smart City Index 2025, scoring 70.3 out of 100 points after evaluating 13,500 data points. The city has made notable strides in various categories, improving its nationwide ranking.

Koblenz's most significant improvement comes in the society and education category, where it jumps 35 places to rank 40th with a score of 76.6 points. This progress reflects the city's commitment to enhancing digital literacy and access to smart goals.

The city also excels in energy and environment, ranking 6th with 81.0 points. This achievement highlights Koblenz's efforts in promoting sustainability and green initiatives.

In mobility, Koblenz climbs three places to 59th, scoring 61.2 points. This improvement indicates the city's focus on developing efficient and eco-friendly transportation systems.

However, Koblenz slips in the IT and communication category, dropping seven places to 66th with 65.1 points. The city also falls to 62nd in administration, scoring 67.5 points. These setbacks suggest areas where Koblenz can further improve its digital infrastructure and services.

Rhineland-Palatinate as a whole performs below average in the state comparison, with an average score of 69.6 points for its five large cities. The top-performing states are Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and Saxony.

Trier leads the ranking of large cities in Rhineland-Palatinate, securing 14th place nationwide with a score of 82.1 points. This achievement demonstrates Trier's success in implementing smart city initiatives.

Koblenz's performance in the Smart City Index 2025 shows progress in several categories, particularly in society and education, energy and environment, and mobility. While there are areas for improvement, such as IT and communication and administration, the city's overall score of 70.3 points reflects its commitment to becoming a smarter, more connected urban center.
