KLM Resumes Amsterdam-Shanghai Flights as China Eases Travel Restrictions

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has reopened its Amsterdam-Shanghai route, marking a significant step in resuming international travel following the relaxation of Chinese travel restrictions. The once-weekly flight, operated by a Boeing 777-300, signifies the importance of the Chinese market in KLM's network.

The flight route, which was suspended in early February due to the epidemic outbreak, now operates with stops in Seoul on both outbound and inbound journeys. The restart was facilitated by the good relationship between Mr. Zhang Guosheng of the Chinese Embassy and Mr. Pieter Elbers, KLM's CEO.

KLM has implemented strict safety measures to comply with Chinese government requirements. These include online health declaration forms, temperature checks for passengers, mandatory face masks, thorough aircraft cleaning, and HEPA-filtered air refreshment. To minimize contact, catering is limited, and toilet inspections are frequent.

The reopening of the Amsterdam-Shanghai route underscores KLM's commitment to the Chinese market. With safety measures in place, KLM aims to provide a secure and comfortable journey for passengers. The airline restarted cargo airlift flights for medical supplies on 20 April, followed by passenger flights on 21 April, demonstrating its gradual return to normal operations.
