Kim Min-seok, the Prime Minister of Korea, is slated to have a meeting with Bill Gates.

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, visited Korea in 2025 with a focus on strengthening global health partnerships, discussing collaborations with Korean biotech firms, and promoting Korea's role in addressing worldwide health challenges.

During his visit, Gates met with high-level officials, including President Lee Jae-myung, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, and National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik, to explore expanding Korea's official development assistance (ODA) and cooperation in vaccine development, manufacturing, and distribution efforts for infectious diseases.

Gates praised Korea's impressive progress in bioscience, highlighting companies like SD Biosensor, EuBiologics, SK bioscience, and LG for their contributions to COVID-19 vaccines and diagnostics. He discussed future collaboration not only in global health but also in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), small modular reactors (SMR), and advanced energy sectors.

Regarding partnerships with private sectors, Gates' visit involved talks that potentially include connections with HD Hyundai (a Korean conglomerate with bio and tech interests) and Nvidia (a leader in AI technology), reflecting a joint push toward integrating biotechnology with AI and other advanced technology sectors.

The visit also marked a significant event for TerraPower, a company associated with Gates, as it secured a funding round of $650 million. Notable investors in this round include HD Hyundai and Nvidia.

The press conference held by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok at Government Complex Seoul on August 19, attended by Gates, provided an opportunity to discuss these partnerships and collaborations. The event took place in central Seoul, a public location, and was open to media coverage.

This visit emphasizes the growing strategic role Korea can play on the global stage in health and technology initiatives. Gates' agenda in Korea underscores the potential for fruitful collaborations between Korean companies and global leaders in technology and health sectors.
