Kazakhstan's Irrigation Boosted by Kyrgyz Water Supply
Kazakhstan's water supply has significantly boosted crop irrigation, with 58,900 hectares now watered. Since April, the Kyrgyz Republic has provided around 304.3 million m³ of water to Kazakhstan. Efforts are underway to ensure fair water distribution and efficient use.
Mechanized cleaning of Furmanovsky bypass and Georgievsky main canals has started, aiming to improve water flow. As of now, over 231 million m³ of water has been supplied to farmers in the Zhambyl region. The planned supply for this period is 270.1 million m³.
Kazakhstan anticipates receiving 625 million m³ of water from the rivers Shu and Talas during the growing season. To manage water use effectively, schedules for sequential water supply through canals have been approved. Farmers are being educated to transition to less water-intensive crops and nighttime irrigation.
The first Vice-Minister for Water Resources and Irrigation in Kazakhstan is overseeing these efforts. With proper management and fair distribution, this water supply is expected to greatly benefit Kazakhstan's agriculture.
