Kazakhstan designates a new envoy to Kuwait
Yerzhan Yelekeyev, a seasoned professional with a diverse background in management and finance, has been appointed as Kazakhstan's Ambassador to the State of Kuwait. This significant career move was announced by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's press service [1][2].
Yelekeyev's journey began in 2007 when he joined JSC "Exploration and Production" of KazMunayGas as an analyst in the Investor Relations Department. His career trajectory took an upward turn in 2010, when he moved to JSC "National Managing Holding Baiterek" and held the position of Managing Director for Asset Management and Project Work until November 2022 [3].
From 2020 to 2021, Yelekeyev served as Deputy Head of the Analytical Group at the Center for Socio-Economic Reforms under the President. In 2021, he joined JSC "Alfa-Bank Kazakhstan" as Director of the Project Office [3]. His most recent position before his diplomatic appointment was with JSC "Alfa-Bank Kazakhstan".
In March 2024, Yelekeyev was appointed Chairman of the Board of JSC "NC Kazakh Invest", marking a significant move in the management of Kazakhstan's national investments [3]. This appointment came amidst broader shifts in Kazakhstan's government and economic strategy [4].
Yelekeyev's academic qualifications include a degree in Management from the Kazakhstan-British Technical University and a Master of Humanities from the University of Glasgow, reflecting advanced academic training likely beneficial to his diplomatic career [5]. He also holds a Master's in Financial Economics from the University of Glasgow.
The change in leadership at JSC "NC Kazakh Invest" saw Yelekeyev succeed Azamat Berdybay, who was relieved of his duties by presidential decree [6]. Yelekeyev's tenure at JSC "NC Kazakh Invest" represents his continued involvement in the economic development of Kazakhstan.
Yelekeyev's new role as Ambassador to Kuwait is a new diplomatic post for him, and it marks a further expansion of his responsibilities in the Kazakh government. His appointment comes at a time when Kazakhstan is seeking to strengthen its ties with strategically important countries like Kuwait.

In his previous role before his diplomatic appointment, Yelekeyev served as the Director of the Project Office at JSC "Alfa-Bank Kazakhstan," a position that involved business and finance matters [3]. As Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Kuwait, Yelekeyev's responsibilities now extend into the realm of politics and general-news, particularly as Kazakhstan seeks to bolster its relationships with strategically important countries [7].
