K-Drama Title: 'Light Shop' Provides Enlightenment for Its Enigmatic Guests

In the K-drama titled "Light Shop", a sequence of enigmatic figures make their way to a solitary source of light within a shrouded alley, where the mysterious shopkeeper, Won-young, portrayed by Ju Ji-hoon (Love Your Enemy), maintains his night vision with sunglasses due to the overbearing illumination from his inventory. His spectral discernment skill might not be the actual reason. His uncanny ability to distinguish the living from the spectral is undeniable. None of the clients seem intent on purchasing a lamp, but they all seek some form of enlightenment.

The connections between these individuals remain elusive, but the series gradually untangles the enigma while exploring their fears. In doing so, it conjures up numerous hair-raising scenarios. Additionally, the nurse, Young-ji, played by Park Bo-young (Daily Dose of Sunshine), and the high school student, Hyun-ju, portrayed by Shin Eun-soo (Twinkling Watermelon), both acquire the gift of perceiving specters, a skill they would be wise to disregard. Won-young warns Hyun-ju that ignoring spectral apparitions is the wisest course of action, but dismissing them can be difficult, especially when the spectral entities haunting "Light Shop" are supremely terrifying.

In ghost stories, resolving the supernatural entities' concerns is essential before they relinquish their earthly existence. However, some visitors to "Light Shop" might not be among the departed. With such a diverse cast to manage, the series deftly drops intriguing breadcrumbs to maintain viewer engagement.

Seol Hyun (Summer Strike), Um Tae-goo (My Sweet Mobster), Kim Min-ha (Pachinko), and Lee Jung-eun (The Trunk), as well as various supporting actors, make up the extensive ensemble. "Light Shop" was penned by renowned webtoon creator Kang Full, whose works have been adapted into movies, dramas, and plays, including the Disney+ award-winning series Moving.

Newcomer director Kim Hee-won helms the ghost story with impressive dexterity. Many might recognize him from films like Project Silence, Unlocked, and Perhaps Love, as well as k-dramas such as Kingdom: Ashin of the North, Behind Your Touch, The Light In Your Eyes, Bring It On Ghost, Angry Mom, and Misaeng: Impossible Life.
