New Director at North Rhine-Westphalia Police Traffic Directorate Vows for Road Safety

Jolanta Bialas has taken over as the new director of the Traffic Directorate at the North Rhine-Westphalia police, effective from May 1. Bialas, who previously served at the PP Wuppertal, has a strong background in traffic management and road safety.

In her new role, Bialas has expressed her commitment to ensuring road safety and preventing traffic accidents. She joins the Traffic Directorate after Ralf Ziegler's retirement, who dedicated nearly ten years of his service to the position at the Dortmund Police Presidium.

Ziegler, who retired after 42 years of service with the North Rhine-Westphalia police, strongly advocated for the introduction of a VU team during his tenure. He also focused on combating the poser, speeder, and tuner scene as part of a strategic focus of the authority.

Before joining the Traffic Directorate, Bialas was the head of the leadership staff of the Directorate of Danger Prevention/Deployment in the PP Düsseldorf until 2021. Prior to that, she served at the PP Wuppertal, where she was active in the duty service and later as a death and arson investigator in KK 11.

The Traffic Directorate has identified excessive speed, insufficient distance, and distraction as common causes of traffic accidents. In an effort to prevent these accidents, Achim Stankowitz, the deputy head of the authority, has taken over from Ziegler at the Directorate of Danger Prevention/Deployment at the Dortmund Police Presidium since 2021.

Stankowitz's predecessor, Ralf Ziegler, developed the "Crash Course" program over the years, a field-tested initiative aimed at reducing traffic accidents. With Bialas at the helm of the Traffic Directorate, it remains to be seen how she will build upon Ziegler's legacy and further improve road safety in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In her new role as the Director of the Verkehr Direktion at the Police Presidium in Dortmund, Jolanta Bialas aims to bolster the finance and transportation sectors to enhance road safety. Building upon Ralf Ziegler's legacy, she intends to introduce innovative strategies from her background in traffic management and road safety to combat factors like excessive speed, insufficient distance, and distraction, thus improving the broader industry of transportation.
