In a twist of events, the sale of TSV 1860 Munich to a Swiss family holding, initially announced in April, has not been finalised. The sale fell through when the potential buyer, Matthias Thoma, was unable to meet the payment deadline, leaving Jordanian investor Hasan Ismaik as the current shareholder.

Ismaik, who bought into the club in 2011 and prevented an insolvency, has confirmed his ongoing involvement with the club. He is set to meet with the club’s president and deputies soon to discuss plans for the next season, the stadium, and the gym. The new investors, whose identities remain unknown, had planned to renovate the Grünwalder Stadion to meet DFL requirements and develop a new sports hall for the club.

Despite the stalled sale, high-profile transfers like Kevin Volland, Florian Niederlechner, and Sigurd Haugen have joined TSV 1860 Munich this summer, promising a brighter future for the club.

Throughout his 14-year involvement with the club, Ismaik had dreams of a new stadium for TSV 1860 Munich, going so far as to propose a unique idea of a new arena with a predator enclosure. However, his tenure was marked by controversy, with frequent clashes with the club’s bosses and alienation of fans.

Ismaik's investment of over 80 million euros in the club did not yield the desired success, with 1860 being relegated from the 2nd league in spring 2017. Despite this, he described the debt-free handover of the club as a "wonderful success story."

The Grünwalder Stadion, where TSV 1860 Munich returned in 2017, does not meet the requirements for a match operation in the 2nd league or even the Bundesliga. The club's credit debts will be waived, except for the financing promises required for the current season's license.

The new shareholder has pledged to renovate the Grünwalder Stadion according to the guidelines of the German Football League, offering hope for a more stable future for TSV 1860 Munich. The purchase price for the club was not disclosed, but it is reported to be significantly more than the previously reported 25 million euros.

Fans of TSV 1860 Munich celebrated Ismaik's departure with a small firework display near the Grünwalder Stadium, hoping for a fresh start for their beloved club. The situation remains unsettled, with Ismaik still involved and no confirmed new ownership at this time.

  1. Despite the un finalized sale to a Swiss family holding, Ismaik's ongoing involvement with TSV 1860 Munich provides an opportunity for discussions about real-estate investments, specifically the plans for the next season, the stadium, and the gym.
  2. As the current shareholder, Ismaik has dreams of investing in a new real-estate development for TSV 1860 Munich, proposing a unique idea of a new arena with a predator enclosure.
  3. With the stalled sale and the continued involvement of Ismaik, the finances of TSV 1860 Munich remain uncertain, affecting their ability to invest in sports infrastructure such as the renovation of the Grünwalder Stadion to meet DFL requirements and the development of a new sports hall.
