Reed Smith Bolsters Finance Capabilities with Evelyn Wang's Appointment

Reed Smith has made a significant move in strengthening its corporate and finance capabilities in Hong Kong with the appointment of Evelyn Wang as a partner in the corporate group. Evelyn brings extensive experience in debt finance transactions, including leveraged and acquisition financing and fund financing across Greater China and Southeast Asia [1][2][5].

Evelyn Wang joins Reed Smith from Haitong International Securities Group, where she was a director in the Loan Capital Markets team, and previously worked at Kirkland & Ellis and Simmons & Simmons. Her hire significantly strengthens Reed Smith’s corporate and finance capabilities in Hong Kong [2].

At Haitong International, Evelyn advised private equity sponsors, enterprises, and institutions on debt finance matters in Greater China and Southeast Asia. Notably, she worked on both the borrower and lender sides of transactions, demonstrating her versatility and broad expertise in the field [1].

Evelyn's technical acumen is superb, and she has gained extensive experience in-house advising both local and international organizations. Her expertise in cross-border financing and work on both sides of transactions may benefit Reed Smith's clients [3].

This appointment comes after the departure of two partners, Michael Sinn and Patrick Wong, from Reed Smith's Hong Kong office this year. However, the focus has been on the expansion and strengthening of the firm's team with Evelyn Wang's inclusion [1][2][4][5].

Praj Samant, Reed Smith's Asia-Pacific managing partner, has stated that Evelyn is a highly regarded lawyer. With her arrival, Reed Smith now has 25 partners in Hong Kong [2].

The hiring of Evelyn Wang from Haitong International signals a commitment to expanding Reed Smith's corporate practice in Asia. Arthur Tso joined Reed Smith as an equity capital markets partner in December 2024, having previously worked at DLA Piper, and Regina Lui joined as a corporate finance partner in May, having previously worked at A&O Shearman [6]. These recent hires have further bolstered Reed Smith's presence in the region, enhancing its finance capabilities and providing a broader range of services to its clients [7].
