New Freelander E0V Electric SUV Set to Debut in China's Competitive Market

In the second half of 2026, the Freelander E0V, a full-size electric SUV from the high-end Exeed brand, will make its entrance into China's crowded electric vehicle market [3]. This new model will compete against popular SUVs like the Yangwang U8, Zeekr 9X, Deepal S09, and Geely Galaxy M9.

Unlike some competitors, the Freelander E0V will be built on a Chinese platform using Chery’s flexible EV architecture. This unique blend of Land Rover design involvement, Chinese technology, and cost structures is expected to optimise market fit and manufacturing efficiency [1].

The Freelander E0V is expected to offer a peak power of up to 413 kW (553 hp) and will be compatible with both BEV and EREV powertrain variants, thanks to its E0X modular architecture. The SUV will also feature advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including L2, and air suspension for a smooth ride [2].

Design-wise, the Freelander aims to balance Land Rover’s traditional SUV capability and composure with contemporary electric driving efficiency. It will offer a premium and capable off-road and urban experience, setting it apart from more affordable rivals that may prioritise cost-effectiveness or pure electric performance [1][4].

The Freelander E0V was previously known as the first Freelander model and is internally called E0V. It was significantly redesigned after being transferred to the CJLR's project. The SUV was spotted during road tests almost at the doorstep of the CJLR factory in Changshu county-level city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou, Jiangsu province [5].

The Freelander E0V, despite its compact appearance, boasts a body length of around 5.1 meters, making it comparable in size to the Maxus V80, with a body length of 4.95 meters [6]. The SUV features a high bonnet line, a flat roofline, a short rear overhang, and short bumpers, giving it a compact look while maintaining a long wheelbase.

The Freelander E0V will first launch in China with long-term overseas ambitions. With its blend of Land Rover's legacy design principles, advanced hybrid/EV tech innovations, a full-size SUV format, and a China-tailored manufacturing approach, the Freelander is poised to appeal to discerning consumers with high expectations for technology and quality [1][3][4].
