Hanoi - Vietnamese businesses have been on a roll, investing a whopping $309.3 million overseas in the initial four months of 2025. A staggering increase compared to the same period last year, this figure comes courtesy of the General Statistics Office.

Over a quarter of a billion dollars ($269 million, precisely) went into 43 fresh projects - that's nearly three times more than the previous year. Additionally, existing projects received an extra $40 million, a considerable hike from the paltry sum from the corresponding period of 2024.

A sizable 36% of these investments were channeled towards the production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, amounting to $111 million. Following closely was the processing and manufacturing industry, securing a cool $65.6 million - about 21.2% of the total investments. This warrants further examination as it could potentially lead to strategic planning and enhanced investment decisions.

In the wake of skyrocketing outbound investments from Vietnam, it would be interesting to envision the prospects of these investments being utilized towards addressing pressing global issues like affordable housing and financial inclusivity, thereby reflecting a more broadened and holistic approach to international investment.
