In the bustling automotive market of China, Honda and its joint ventures have shown a mixed performance in February 2025.

Honda Motor Company, a well-known player in the industry, sold 41,000 vehicles in China during February, marking a 6.5 percent decrease compared to the same period the previous year. This contrasts with Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd, another joint venture of Honda, which experienced a 18 percent increase in sales, selling 18,000 units in February.

Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd, another Honda joint venture, saw a plunge in sales volume, with a 19.6 percent decrease, selling 23,000 vehicles in China during February.

Other Japanese brands like Toyota and Mazda also experienced a decrease in sales volume in China in February.

However, it's not all doom and gloom for Honda in China. Honda Motor Company's joint ventures in the country, such as GAC Honda, continue to push boundaries. GAC Honda launched new electric vehicle models like the P7 in February, demonstrating their commitment to the growing electric vehicle market in China.

In the electric vehicle (NEV) sector, The Geely Xingyuan was the top-selling NEV in China in May 2025 with 38,715 units sold. The BYD Seagull came in second with 31,105 units sold, while the BYD Qin Plus took the third spot with 29,328 units sold.

Chinese NEV startup HIMA also made a significant impact, with a delivery ranking of 52,747 units in June 2025. Leapmotor and Xiaomi also showed strong performance, although specific sales figures for their NEVs were not provided.

The Denza D9 was one of the best-selling passenger vehicles in China in April 2025, adding another feather to the cap for the electric vehicle market in China.

In the first two months of 2021, Honda's total sales volume in China stood at 10,700 units, showing a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent. This suggests that while Honda may have faced challenges in February, the company is still making strides in the Chinese market.

Wuyang Honda, another Honda joint venture in China, focuses on the production of motorcycles, including standard motorcycles, sport bikes, scooters, and electric bicycles. As the demand for sustainable and efficient transportation continues to grow in China, Wuyang Honda's offerings could play a crucial role in Honda's future success in the country.
