In a significant move, Beijing Auto Works (BAW) has unveiled the C71 Concept at a recent show, marking a revived chapter for the iconic Saab 9-5. The C71 is a reworked version of the popular Swedish model, based on the Saab 9-5 platform that BAW acquired from General Motors before the brand was sold to Spyker.
The C71 Concept aims to continue the spirit of the old 9-5, a topic that has sparked debate among car enthusiasts. The redesigned vehicle boasts a futuristic look, with a nose featuring innovative headlights and closed air intakes. Under the hood, the displayed C71 Concept was equipped with a 2.0 litre turbo engine.
In addition to the C71, Beijing Auto is planning to release the coupe Arcfox Alpha S5. The specifics of this upcoming model are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, the BAIC BJ60, a SUV model, has already been launched in China. Equipped with a maximum power of 267 HP and a 4WD system, the BJ60 offers a robust driving experience. It has a starting price of 33,500 USD, making it an attractive option for many.
A spotting of the Beijing BJ30 SUV version on the road suggests that BAIC is expanding its vehicle offerings. However, information about the rebuilding of the C71 project in China and the timeline for this project remains unclear.
The rebuilding process for the production lines of the C71 is expected to take approximately a year. BAW purchased the production lines and plans to rebuild them in China.
