India's law firm, AZB & Partners, designates a new leader for its Investment Funds department.
Shagoofa Rashid Khan, a seasoned professional with nearly 25 years of experience in investment funds and private equity, has joined AZB & Partners as a senior partner and practice head.
Khan, whose client portfolio includes sovereign funds, pension funds, and prominent global and domestic fund managers, will bring tremendous value to the firm's clients, according to Zia Mody, co-founder and managing partner of AZB & Partners.
Khan's expertise spans private equity, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic initiatives, particularly in the real estate and infrastructure sectors. She has worked with various fund clients and has experience in structuring funds, managed accounts, infrastructure investment trusts, fund documentation, exits, and international taxation.
Prior to joining AZB & Partners, Khan held leadership roles at IDFC Alternatives Limited, Tata Services, Kotak Investment Advisors, and law firm Nishith Desai & Associates. She also previously led national funds at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. In 2021, she joined the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) as group general counsel.
At NIIF, Khan was responsible for legal, compliance, regulatory, governance, and corporate affairs, demonstrating her versatility and depth of knowledge in managing complex legal and business matters.
At AZB & Partners, Khan will play a key role in managing deals and providing strategic counsel to clients in the areas of private equity and fund structuring. Her expertise in navigating complex regulatory frameworks will help clients maximize investment potential while ensuring compliance.
