Get Ready for the 2025 AIM Independent Music Awards!
The music scene is buzzing as the AIM Independent Music Awards are gearing up to return to London's iconic Roundhouse on September 23, 2025. Now in its 15th year, this event has become known as the UK's premier award show, shining a light on groundbreaking artists, labels, and entrepreneurs in the independent music world.
The Association of Independent Music (AIM), an organization representing and fighting for the interests of the UK's independent music community, is behind these awards. Together, they account for one-third of the UK's recorded music market.
To support independent music communities across all regions and nations of the UK, the 2025 edition of the awards will reintroduce AIM's Local Music Champions, in collaboration with BBC Introducing. This award honors individuals who have shown unwavering dedication to their local music community or used their position to improve the wider ecosystem.
Last year's awards saw Sparks receiving the Outstanding Contribution to Music award, while Neneh Cherry collected the Innovator award. Other honorees included Sampha, Jorja Smith, Barry Can't Swim, OneDa, Sonic Cathedral, and many more. Notable past winners include Adele, Stormzy, Little Simz, Idles, FKA Twigs, Dave, Ezra Collective, Wet Leg, and Arlo Parks, who have since achieved widespread acclaim, includingrecognition at the Ivors, Mercurys, MOBOs, BRITs, and Grammys.
This year's event promises to build on the success of the 2024 edition by showcasing the best independent music from all corners of the UK. Submissions are now open and will close at 23:59 on July 9 for AIM Rightsholder members. Discounts are available for organizations connected to AIM, like those who focus on promoting diversity in the industry.
Some of this year's categories include Best Independent Track, Best Independent Label, Best Boutique Label, Best Independent Album, Best Independent Remix, Best Independent Mixtape/EP, Best Independent Video, Best Creative Campaign, Best Live Performer (public vote), Music Entrepreneur of the Year, Best Independent Record Store, EDI Champion, Independent Music Champion, Innovator Award, Outstanding Contribution to Music, and Local Music Champions, in collaboration with BBC Introducing.
"We are thrilled to bring the UK's most lively music community awards back to the Roundhouse, celebrating the breadth of talent and innovation across independent music," said Gee Davy, CEO of AIM. "The Independent Music Awards is the ideal platform to honor those who often go unnoticed, creating the most culturally impactful music coming out of the UK." And as Davy adds, "We thank Merlin and PPL for their ongoing support and are always happy to hear from those who would like to work with us to ensure this special celebration can continue to shine a light on the best in independent music."
