Germany's leading wind turbine manufacturer, Nordex, has shared its Q1 earnings, reporting a substantial profit surge despite a dip in the number of newly installed wind energy systems. The company installed 180 fewer turbines compared to the same period last year, but this downturn has not marred their financial success.

Nordex, headquartered in Hamburg with legal base in Rostock, revealed its Q1 performance, stating that turnover dropped by 8.8% to approximately €1.4 billion. However, improved profitability has led to a noteworthy EBITDA increase of nearly 53% to €79.6 million. The company made a promising profit of €8 million, as opposed to the loss of €13 million in March 2021. Nordex refrained from commenting on this surge.

A considerable portion of Nordex's operations lies in the Projects segment, which saw a decrease in revenue by €200 million to €1.2 billion. In contrast, the Service segment reported a substantial revenue increase. The company employs over 10,400 individuals worldwide, with significant manufacturing operations in Rostock.

Nordex's order book finished Q1 at a hefty €8.2 billion, marking a 12% increase compared to the previous year. Over 85% of this business is destined for Europe, with 8% earmarked for North America. Just 4% of the latest acquisitions came from North America, while 91% were allocated to Europe.

The company remains optimistic and committed to achieving its annual target, stating a revenue range of €7.4 to €7.9 billion and an operating margin between 5 and 7%. Metzler analysts acclaimed Nordex's continued margin improvement, highlighting the full order book, and noting that competition with Chinese suppliers is unlikely for Nordex, which focuses on small-to-medium projects.

As the German government has now forsworn the reactivation of mothballed nuclear power plants, the future of the renewable energy sector appears promising.

Community policy should encourage more investments in renewable-energy businesses like Nordex through incentives and vocational training programs for the workforce.

In the renewable-energy industry, finance plays a crucial role in turbine manufacturing companies, such as Nordex, as depreciation expenses and prognosis singularly impact business operations.

It is noteworthy that despite a noticeable decline in installations, Nordex still reported a substantial profit leap, demonstrating the resilience of the renewable-energy business.

Given Nordex's focus on small-to-medium projects, competition from Chinese suppliers may not be as substantial in the vocational training sector, providing an opportunity for community initiatives to support the growth of the renewable-energy industry.

The future of the renewable-energy sector appears promising, with the German government's commitment to phasing out nuclear power, leading to increased demand for vocational training and technological advancements in wind turbines.
