Housing First Hamburg Exceeds Target, Providing Homes to 39 Homeless Individuals

Housing First Hamburg, an innovative initiative to combat homelessness, has successfully housed 39 individuals, surpassing its initial goal. The project, led by Nina Behlau, has shown positive results since its launch in 2022 and integration into regular services in September 2023.

The Housing First approach, which prioritizes providing homeless people with a home before addressing other issues, has proven effective in Hamburg. David and Vitalij are among the 39 individuals who have found stability through this method. The project offers voluntary support services and assistance from social workers, tailoring help to each individual's needs.

Nina Behlau, the project leader, reports a positive interim balance, highlighting the success of the initiative. Despite starting as a time-limited project in 2022, Housing First Hamburg has become a regular service, demonstrating its value and impact on the city's homeless population.

With 39 homeless individuals now housed, Housing First Hamburg has exceeded its initial target. The project's success, as reported by Nina Behlau, underscores the effectiveness of the Housing First approach. As a regular service since September 2023, it continues to provide homes and support to those in need, marking a significant step forward in addressing homelessness in Hamburg.
