Housing First Hamburg: 39 Homeless Find Permanent Homes

The Housing First Hamburg project, initially launched as a time-limited initiative in 2022, has become a permanent service in the city. This innovative approach to tackling homelessness has already helped 39 individuals, including David and Vitalij, find a place to call home. The project's leader, Nina Behlau, reports positive progress since its integration into regular homeless services in September.

The Housing First concept, proven successful internationally and now in Hamburg, prioritises housing homeless individuals before addressing other challenges they face. Once housed, participants can access further support services and assistance from social workers on a voluntary basis. The pilot project surpassed its initial goal of housing 30 people, demonstrating its effectiveness in the city.

David and Vitalij are two of the 39 individuals who have benefited from this innovative approach. They, along with the other participants, have found stability and a sense of belonging through the Housing First project.

The Housing First Hamburg project, now a regular service, has successfully housed 39 individuals since its inception in 2022. With positive interim results and satisfaction from project leader Nina Behlau, this innovative approach to homelessness continues to make a significant impact in Hamburg.
