Hospitality sector's turnover in July 2025 experienced a 0.8% increase compared to the preceding month.

In July 2025, the German hospitality industry displayed a mix of positive and negative trends compared to previous months.

According to preliminary data, hotels and other accommodation providers experienced a 1.2% increase in real estate terms and a 1.5% increase in nominal terms when compared to June 2025. However, when compared to the same month in 2024, there was a -3.9% decrease in real estate terms and a -1.7% decrease in nominal terms.

The catering industry, on the other hand, showed a more consistent growth. Turnover increased by 1.0% in real estate terms and 1.1% in nominal terms in July 2025 compared to June 2025. However, when compared to July 2024, the industry saw a 4.1% decrease in real estate terms with no change in nominal terms.

Despite these fluctuations, the overall hospitality sector in Germany is still struggling to recover from the impact of the pandemic. The revenue in the event sector and accommodation businesses has decreased compared to the months before 2025, with the sector showing about a 15.1% real estate decline in the first half of 2025 compared to 2019. Factors contributing to this decline include rising costs, more selective spending by guests, shorter and less frequent outings, a shift towards private gatherings, and changes in event concepts demanding higher quality events.

The final values for the turnover of the hospitality industry and the catering industry in June 2025 are not provided for this article. However, the previously revised data for June 2025 shows a -0.9% decrease in real estate terms month-on-month (calendar- and seasonally-adjusted), and a -2.4% decrease in nominal terms month-on-month.

In July 2025, the hospitality industry also showed a 1.0% increase in nominal terms month-on-month and a 0.8% increase in real estate terms month-on-month (preliminary). Additionally, the industry experienced a -0.6% decrease in nominal terms year-on-year and a -3.7% decrease in real estate terms year-on-year (preliminary) compared to July 2024.

The hospitality industry in Germany recorded a decrease in turnover of 0.9% (final value) in real estate terms and 2.4% (final value) in nominal terms in June 2025 compared to May 2025, after revising the preliminary results. In the catering industry, after revising the preliminary results, turnover decreased by 1.1% (final value) in real estate terms and 0.6% (final value) in nominal terms in June 2025 compared to May 2025.

These figures suggest a slow but steady recovery for the German hospitality industry, with challenges persisting in the event sector and accommodations. The industry continues to navigate through the pandemic's aftermath, working towards pre-Corona levels of performance.
