Hiscox appoints former Man Group executive as new chairman

Seasoned financial services executive Peter Clarke is set to join the board of international specialist insurer Hiscox, taking over from current chair Colin Keogh.

Clarke, who steps into the role from June 1, will officially assume the chairmanship on July 1, subject to regulatory approval. Keogh has been in the role since August last year, following the death of Jonathan Bloomer, who was aboard the yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily alongside tech giant Mike Lynch.

Clarke boasts an impressive career in the financial services industry, particularly within FTSE-listed companies. He began his career as a solicitor at London law firm Slaughter and May before moving into executive roles in banking and investment management. He spent over 20 years at Man Group, holding positions as Group Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer until 2012, when the listed hedge fund announced a senior team shake-up.

In addition to his executive roles, Clarke has significant non-executive and chair experience. He has served on the boards of AXA Investment Managers SA, Sainsbury’s Bank Plc, and most recently as Chair of Lancashire Insurance Holdings Ltd for seven years. He also currently serves as Chair of Redwheel and as a non-executive director of Lombard Odier Asset Management on their US, European, and Swiss boards.

Hiscox Group CEO, Aki Hussain, commented on the appointment, stating, "Peter's significant expertise in financial services, his experience of growing businesses in the US, as well as his deep understanding of the big-ticket insurance market make him a great addition to the board."

Clarke expressed his excitement at joining Hiscox, citing the diversity of its offering and the quality of the team as factors that provide a strong platform for further growth.

With his extensive experience in the financial services industry and deep expertise in the insurance sector, Clarke's appointment to Hiscox reflects the insurer's commitment to strong leadership and growth.

Peter Clarke's extensive experience in the financial services industry, spanning executive roles in banking, investment management, and as a non-executive director, will bring valuable insights to the insurance business at Hiscox. His appointment as the company's chairman illustrates the insurer's focus on attracting strong leadership and fostering growth within the finance and insurance industry.
