Hexi Pharma factory, notoriously associated with tax evasion allegations, is now being offered for purchase by Romania's tax authority, ANAF.
The Romanian National Tax Agency (ANAF) has listed the factory of troubled disinfectant manufacturer Hexi Pharma for sale. The company, now in insolvency, is indebted to the Romanian government to the tune of RON 17.6 million. The Prosecutor's Office affiliated with the High Court of Cassation and Justice is one of the entities seeking to recover these debts.
To cover the debt, the tax authority is attempting to auction off a 2,600 square meter plot of land and a 1,700 square meter metal hall, both located in Mogoșoaia, with an initial asking price of RON 8 million (EUR 1.6 million), inclusive of VAT, according to Profit.ro.
The Hexi Pharma controversy erupted following revelations by Gazeta Sporturilor and journalist Catalin Tolontan based on statements and documents provided by former company employees. It was alleged that the disinfectants provided to hospitals by Hexi Pharma had lower concentrations than indicated on the label. The journalists found that authorities had never inspected the quality of disinfectants utilized in public hospitals, and the only lab authorized for such tests was controlled by Hexi Pharma's owner, Dan Condrea.
