Hesai to Deliver LiDAR Devices for Toyota's Joint Venture in China
Hesai's LiDAR Sensors Gain Traction in Autonomous Vehicle Market
In a significant development for the autonomous vehicle industry, Hesai, a leading LiDAR technology company, has announced partnerships with several leading automakers, including Toyota's joint venture in China, and BMW. These collaborations mark a new phase in Hesai's expansion into the global market.
Hesai's LiDAR sensors, equipped with Hesai's fourth-generation chip architecture technology, have been planned as standard equipment for mass-produced models by numerous customers in 2025-2026. The ATour X (Twitter) profile LiDAR, a compact and long-range sensor, will be used in new energy vehicle (NEV) models of the Toyota joint venture and BMW's upcoming electric vehicles.
The partnership with the Toyota joint venture signals the automaker's accelerated entry into the intelligent vehicle market. The joint venture's NEV models will be equipped with Hesai's ATour X (Twitter) profile LiDAR, which is set to go into mass production in 2026.
BMW has also placed an order for LiDARs with the ATour X Profile developed by Hesai for the production of their new energy vehicles in 2026.
Hesai's LiDAR deliveries have seen a substantial increase in the first half of 2025. The company reported a year-on-year increase of 276.2 percent, with a total of 547,913 units shipped. This figure surpasses the full-year 2024 figure, indicating a strong demand for Hesai's LiDAR technology.
The second quarter was particularly successful for Hesai, with LiDAR shipments reaching 352,095 units, a 306.9 percent year-on-year increase. The revenue generated by Hesai in the second quarter was RMB 710 million ($98.9 million), representing a 50 percent year-on-year increase.
The growth in LiDAR deliveries is not limited to the automotive sector. In the second quarter, deliveries for the robotics sector reached 48,531 units, a 743.6 percent year-on-year increase.
Hesai's success is further evidenced by the orders it has received. In addition to the orders from Toyota and BMW, Hesai secured an order for 200,000 LiDAR units from Leapmotor. This order is for Hesai's automotive ADAS LiDAR, which is expected to contribute significantly to the company's growth in the coming years.
The partnership with the Toyota joint venture also marks a new chapter in Hesai's cooperation with Japanese automakers. This collaboration underscores Hesai's commitment to delivering cutting-edge LiDAR technology to the global market.
With these partnerships and increased demand for its LiDAR technology, Hesai Group (NASDAQ: HSAI) is well-positioned to continue its growth in the autonomous vehicle industry. The company's focus on innovation and collaboration is expected to drive its success in the years to come.
