Heavy-duty transport vehicles now equipped with an extensive electrification service, a joint effort by Spirii and ZE Ports.

In a bid to simplify the shift towards electric fleets, Amsterdam-based ZE Ports and EV charging provider Spirii have collaborated to deliver an end-to-end electrification solution for heavy-duty fleets. This innovative approach, known as Fleet as a Service and Charging as a Service, aims to eliminate high upfront costs and operational complexities associated with fleet electrification [1][2][3][4].

The comprehensive offering covers everything from investment and ownership to charging infrastructure and management. ZE Ports finances and owns the electric trucks or buses chosen by the client, along with the necessary charging infrastructure. This means fleet operators do not need to purchase vehicles or infrastructure outright.

Spirii takes care of charger installation and provides a comprehensive charge point management platform. This platform includes real-time charger monitoring, operations management, advanced access and pricing controls for depot charger sharing, and smart energy management to optimize grid usage.

ZE Ports also supplies renewable energy tailored via a data-driven strategy for each route. This ensures reliability, minimizes battery degradation, simplifies infrastructure requirements, and lowers energy costs.

In terms of pricing, clients pay a fixed monthly fee calculated per kilometre driven. This fee covers vehicles, charging infrastructure, renewable energy, maintenance, insurance, and operational services. The pricing example given is approximately €0.90 per kilometre for electric trucks and €1.27 per kilometre for electric buses.

The service is designed to reduce the total cost of ownership compared to diesel fleets. For instance, a fleet of 35 electric trucks operating 11 hours per day could save up to €11.7 million in total, or about €336,000 per vehicle, over their operational lifetime.

Currently, the service is available across European markets, making it easier for operators to transition to electric fleets by removing barriers such as capital expenditure, infrastructure deployment delays, and operational challenges.

Mauricio Sardi, CEO and founder of ZE Ports, emphasizes their mission to make the shift to electric fleets simple and affordable. He states, "We take on all electrification complexities—from planning and deployment to day-to-day operations—allowing clients to focus on core transport activities while benefiting from premium technology and best practices." Tore Harritshøj, CEO and co-founder of Spirii, shares a similar vision. He notes that their goal is to remove barriers for heavy-duty fleet operators who want to go electric by providing a turnkey solution.

This strategic partnership between ZE Ports and Spirii is set to revolutionize the transportation industry, making the transition to electric fleets more accessible and cost-effective for operators across Europe.

The partnership between ZE Ports and Spirii offers a financial solution, as ZE Ports finances and owns the electric trucks or buses and the necessary charging infrastructure, enabling fleet operators to avoid high upfront costs. Meanwhile, Spirii's Technology, specifically the charge point management platform, streamlines business operations by handling charger installation and providing advanced pricing controls.
