Harry Styles' Hot 100 achievement has been mirrored – once more.

Mariah Carey's holiday anthem, "All I Want for Christmas Is You," is ruling the Hot 100 once more this week, making a triumphant return to the top spot. This annual occurrence sees the track ascend the ladder on the most challenging and high-stakes countdown in the United States every December, contributing to its growing tally of weeks spent in the No. 1 spot. As Carey and her timeless hit regain dominance over the list, she shares the spot with one of the world's most prominent pop stars for a limited period.

"All I Want for Christmas Is You" currently boasts 15 weeks at the No. 1 position on the Hot 100, tying with "As It Was" by Harry Styles as the chart's sixth-longest-reigning leader. Styles scored his most significant achievement to date–in his solo career at least–when he debuted "As It Was" at No. 1 in early 2022. The hit song went on to conquer the throne multiple times throughout the year, eventually accumulating its 15 weeks at the summit over five separate reigns. Its reign concluded in October.

Since "As It Was" secured its place among the most unyielding No. 1s in Hot 100 history, two songs have spent more time on top of the chart. In 2023, Morgan Wallen surpassed Styles' record as the longest-reigning solo male leader when "Last Night" added a 16th week at No. 1.

Fast-forwarding to 2024, both Styles and Wallen were dethroned. Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" ruled the Hot 100 for an impressive 19 weeks, coming close to besting the all-time top performance, but it now seems unlikely with Mariah Carey's track back in control.

At present, "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus' "Old Town Road" are tied for the longest-leading No. 1s in the Hot 100's extensive history, each clocking in at 19 weeks. The pair is joined by "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber, along with "One Sweet Day" by Carey and Boyz II Men, both of which sat atop the chart for 16 frames.

It appears that "All I Want for Christmas Is You" will maintain its position at No. 1 for at least one more week in 2022, potentially for a few more frames, before waning interest in the holiday season and the Hot 100 crowns a different non-seasonal hit. Carey will undoubtedly match her longest reign shortly, and it's likely that she'll surpass Styles permanently.

Harry Styles' "As It Was" scored multiple weeks at the No. 1 position in 2022, eventually reaching 15 weeks, spreading across five separate reigns. After concluding its reign in October, Harry Styles made it to the Hot 100's most weeks number one list, following Mariah Carey.
