Hamm Boosts Public Transport: 10-Minute Bus Intervals Start August 24

Hamm is set to enhance its public transport system, aiming to make it a more appealing alternative to cars for daily commuters. The city will introduce a 10-minute bus interval during peak times, starting on August 24. This change is part of the Integrated Transport Plan 2025, which aligns with the Mobility Master Plan 2024.

The 10-minute interval will initially be implemented on central bus lines 1/3 and 10/11 during peak travel times. Hamm Stadtwerke will increase the number of buses on these lines to achieve this. The introduction of this interval is limited until the end of 2026, with further design based on demand data to be decided later that year.

The city has seen an increase in public transport usage since 2023, with new fare models such as the HammTicket and free student and trainee fares contributing to a nearly 20% rise in ticket sales. This change is part of the city's broader goal to almost double the share of public transport in total traffic, from 8% to 15% by 2035. This would accommodate around 70,000 passengers per day.

The city of Hamm aims to reduce CO2 emissions in traffic by around 40% (20,000 tonnes per year) by 2035 through the Mobility Master Plan. The introduction of the 10-minute bus interval is a significant step towards achieving this goal, making public transport a more attractive and sustainable option for commuters.
