Introducing the FASTag Annual Pass: A Seamless, Cost-Effective Solution for Frequent National Highway Travelers

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out a new initiative called the FASTag Annual Pass, designed to simplify and cost-optimize toll payments for private vehicle owners who travel frequently on India's National Highways and Expressways.

Effective from August 15, 2025, the one-time fee for the FASTag Annual Pass is ₹3,000, which covers up to 200 toll-free trips or one year of validity, whichever is reached first. The pass is exclusive to non-commercial private vehicles, such as cars, jeeps, and vans, and cannot be used by commercial vehicles like buses or trucks.

The FASTag Annual Pass offers several key benefits. It provides seamless, prepaid toll payments at designated National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas across India, eliminating the need for repeated FASTag recharges. The pass links directly to an active FASTag already associated with the vehicle's registration number, so no new tag is required.

After 200 toll crossings or the expiry of one year, the pass needs renewal by paying the ₹3,000 fee again; there is no auto-renewal. On toll plazas managed by State Governments or at State Highways (SH), the FASTag operates as a regular tag with applicable charges.

The FASTag Annual Pass was introduced with the aim of enhancing the user experience and making journeys on National Highways and Expressways more economical and seamless. On the first day of implementation, around 1.2 lakh users purchased and activated the annual pass, and the response from national highway users has been overwhelmingly positive.

The FASTag Annual Pass gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment through the Rajmargyatra App or NHAI website. The pass is applicable to all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag. As of now, the penetration rate of FASTag is around 98 per cent, and there are over 8 crore users.

The FASTag Annual Pass aims to promote the use of technology for improved 'ease of living' by eliminating the need for frequent recharges, as it provides one-time fee payment of ₹3,000 for one year's validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. The pass is an attractive option for frequent national highway users, offering a seamless and economical travel experience.
