Government expedites revamp of Laem Chabang Port infrastructure

Expanding the East's economic prowess, Laem Chabang Port Phase 3 is in full swing! As of early May 2025, marine construction stands at an impressive 67% completion, propelled forward by the CNNC Joint Venture.

Phase 3 is more than just an upgrade; it's a game-changer for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) strategy. The project focuses on enhancing roads, utilities, and logistics facilities to streamline cargo flow, tackling bottlenecks, and addressing the escalating regional trade demand.

excited about what's on the horizon! Upon completion, Laem Chabang Port will boast a staggering container handling capacity of approximately 18.1 million TEUs annually, with a significant boost in rail freight capacity. The goal is to see rail freight account for a whopping 30% share (up from the current 7%), with new rail terminals E and F handling a combined 4 million TEUs annually.

This ambitious project is a joint venture between the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) and private sector partners. In 2021, a 35-year concession agreement was inked with GPC International Terminal for the development of the Berth F section, and a 12.8 billion baht project to consolidate terminals B1 and B2 is already in the works, aiming to extend berth length and accommodate larger vessels more efficiently.

The rapid progress serves the EEC's objective of bolstering logistics infrastructure and Thailand’s position as a dominant regional trade hub. The government is leaving no stone unturned to meet tight deadlines and ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

So, buckle up! Laem Chabang Port is poised to become the gateway for ASEAN trade, driving economic growth, and cementing Thailand’s status as a significant regional logistics powerhouse.

The completion of Laem Chabang Port Phase 3 will have a profound impact on the finance sector, with the port's increased container handling capacity expected to generate significant revenue.

The enhancement of transportation facilities in this project will further solidify the Eastern Economic Corridor's (EEC) role in the global industry and finance landscape, positioning Thailand as a key player in both transportation and finance.
