Global collaboration between Lucid and Uber initiates the unveiling of a worldwide Robotaxi network.
Uber, Lucid Group, and Nuro Announce Strategic Partnership for Global Robotaxi Network
In a landmark move, Uber, Lucid Group, and Nuro have joined forces to create a premium global robotaxi network, set to revolutionize urban mobility. The partnership, announced in mid-July 2025, will see the deployment of a robotaxi fleet starting in 2026, with the first vehicles hitting the roads in a major U.S. city later in the year.
The collaboration leverages Lucid's advanced electric vehicle (EV) platform, Nuro's proven autonomous technology from multiple driverless deployments, and Uber's massive global ride-hailing network. Over the next six years, at least 20,000 autonomous Lucid Gravity SUVs equipped with Nuro's self-driving tech will be introduced.
Uber's investment in the partnership is substantial, with the company making multi-hundred-million-dollar investments in both Lucid and Nuro. Uber has also committed a significant $300 million into Lucid to support the program and factory upgrades.
Lucid's assembly plant in Casa Grande, Arizona, will be upgraded to integrate Nuro hardware directly into the Gravity vehicles during manufacture. The Lucid Gravity, first made available for orders in November 2024, will be integrated with Nuro's AI-powered autonomy stack.
Nuro will be responsible for safety validations, closed-course testing, and supervised on-road trials of the autonomous robotaxis. The Lucid-Nuro-Uber team-up is Uber's most ambitious robotaxi move yet, and it expands Uber's ongoing collaborations with Waymo on autonomous rides.
The new robotaxi program is purpose-built for the Uber platform, offering the vehicles exclusively on the Uber app. Uber sees this partnership as part of a broad autonomous vehicle program that aims to be a leading commercial app for robotaxis worldwide.
The partnership also opens up opportunities for Uber Eats deliveries, with the companies planning to leverage the robotaxi network for food delivery services in select cities. A prototype of the autonomous robotaxis is already testing at Nuro's proving grounds in Las Vegas.
This strategic partnership aims to extend Lucid's innovation and technology leadership into the multi-trillion-dollar autonomous vehicle market. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that autonomous vehicles have the potential to transform cities for the better, and this partnership is a significant step towards making that vision a reality.
