Germany's Hospitality Industry Sees Mixed Results in April 2019

April 2019 brought mixed news for Germany's hospitality industry. While gastronomy thrived, accommodation struggled. Regionally, North Rhine-Westphalia saw a decline in April but growth over the first four months.

Germany's Hospitality Industry Sees Mixed Results in April 2019

The German hospitality industry has seen mixed results in recent months. Nationally, real id turnover decreased by 1.7% in April 2019 compared to the previous year, while nominal turnover increased by 0.5%.

Looking at specific sectors, gastronomy fared relatively well with a 0.5% increase in nominal turnover, despite a 2.0% decrease in real id turnover. However, accommodation struggled with a significant 11.6% drop in real id turnover and a 10.1% decrease in nominal turnover compared to April 2018.

Regionally, the North Rhine-Westphalian hospitality industry experienced a 4.7% decrease in real id turnover in April 2019. However, for the first four months of 2019, the region saw a real increase in turnover of 0.5% and a nominal increase of 2.5% compared to the same period in 2018.

Despite the mixed results, the total real id inflation-adjusted revenue development of the German hospitality industry up to April 2019 showed a positive growth of approximately 3.7% compared to the previous year.
