Germany's Customs Raid Hotel Industry: 62 Cases, 20 Offences

Customs authorities in Germany have conducted a major inspection drive in the hotel and catering industry. The operation, led by the Main Customs Office Landshut, targeted compliance with minimum wage regulations and social security obligations. It resulted in 62 cases subject to follow-up inspections and 20 administrative offence proceedings.

On 19.09.2025, the Financial Control of Illegal Work of the Customs (FKS) carried out inspections across Germany. At the Main Customs Office Landshut, 58 customs employees interviewed over 150 employees and checked numerous business documents. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with the legal minimum wage of €12.82 per hour, social security obligations, and to uncover improper receipt of social benefits and illegal employment.

The operation uncovered 62 cases that require further investigation. This includes 20 administrative offence proceedings, such as violations of minimum wage regulations or the obligation to carry and present ID papers. However, the names of the companies involved remain confidential. In three cases, criminal proceedings have been initiated for residence without a residence permit.

The customs authorities, focusing on the hotel and catering industry due to its size and employment intensity, have taken a significant step in combating illegal work and ensuring fair wages. The 62 cases subject to follow-up inspections and the initiated proceedings demonstrate their commitment to enforcing the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG).
