Germany First to Adopt Raytheon's Advanced SPY-6 Radar for F127 Frigates

Germany has chosen Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX, to equip its eight F127 frigates with the advanced SPY-6(V)1 radar. This deal, set to commence in the mid-2020s, makes Germany the first international customer for this cutting-edge technology.

Raytheon, a global leader in defense solutions, will adapt the radar to the F127's design, providing comprehensive support and services. The SPY-6(V)1 radar, featuring four array faces with 37 radar modular assemblies each, offers continuous, 360-degree situational awareness. This multi-mission solution will enhance the German Navy's decision-making capabilities at sea.

The SPY-6 is part of the U.S. Navy's SPY-6 family, proven effective on seven classes of ships for air and missile defense. Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon, expressed confidence in the global appeal of the SPY-6's advanced capabilities.

The installation of the SPY-6 radar on the German F127 frigates is expected to begin in the mid-2020s. This deal, worth an undisclosed sum, is a testament to RTX's status as the world's largest aerospace and defense company, with projected 2024 sales exceeding $80 billion. The German Navy stands to gain a significant boost in its operational capabilities with this advanced radar system.
