Georgia's Aviation Sector Takes Off With New Ankara-Tbilisi Route
Georgia's aviation sector is booming. Passenger traffic in the country's airports has surged by 14% in the first eight months of 2025, reaching 5.6 million. This growth is partly driven by new direct flights between Ankara and Tbilisi, launched by Turkish budget airline AJet.
The inaugural flight from Ankara to Tbilisi was welcomed with a grand ceremony at Tbilisi International Airport. This new route is expected to boost passenger numbers between Turkey and Georgia, which saw over 1.2 million travelers in 2024. The Georgian aviation sector has seen a 15% increase in the number of flights handled in the first eight months of 2025, totaling 24,915 flights. The launch of these direct flights was announced during the Georgian President's visit to Turkey.
The growth in passenger traffic and the introduction of new direct flights indicate a thriving aviation sector in Georgia. The Ankara-Tbilisi route, launched by AJet, is set to further boost tourism and economic ties between the two countries.
