Gas company Erdgas Südwest Service GmbH announces fresh goals in celebration of its anniversary

Southwest Natural Gas Service Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Natural Gas Ltd., is celebrating its first anniversary with ambitious expansion plans. Since starting operations in August 2024, the company has been providing professional trade services around heating and photovoltaics to customers in North Baden.

Now, Southwest Natural Gas Service Ltd. is looking beyond its initial milestone, with sights set on significant pipeline capacity expansion, infrastructure investments, and customer growth.

Pipeline Capacity Expansion

The most notable initiative is the proposed major expansion of the Great Basin Gas Transmission system. This expansion is expected to cost between $1.2 billion and $1.6 billion, with the aim of supporting increased demand of up to 1.76 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per day.

The expansion plans include upsizing pipelines and adding compressors, with a target in-service date of November 2028. Negotiations with potential shippers are underway to finalize transportation service agreements, planned for a minimum of 20 years.

Alternative Ratemaking Plans

Southwest Natural Gas Service Ltd. is also implementing alternative ratemaking plans, enabled by recently passed Nevada legislation (Senate Bill 417). These plans allow for more flexible utility rate designs to support infrastructure investments and customer service improvements.

Customer Growth and Rate Reductions

The company has seen impressive customer growth since its inception, adding approximately 40,000 new meter sets over the past 12 months. This reflects a 1.8% customer growth rate during that period.

In an effort to support affordability alongside growth, Southwest Natural Gas Service Ltd. is reducing customer rates in Nevada to accelerate the return of over-collected gas costs under the purchased gas adjustment mechanism.

Strong Liquidity and Personnel Growth

With over $1 billion available in liquidity, Southwest Natural Gas Service Ltd. has the capital necessary to fund these expansion projects. The company also plans personnel growth to match its expanding operations.

Expansion into Upper Swabia

In the coming year, Southwest Natural Gas Service Ltd. is planning an expansion of its catchment area to Upper Swabia.

These efforts collectively aim to enhance system reliability, accommodate regional growth, and support sustainable energy solutions in their service territories in Arizona, Nevada, and California.
