From the 3rd of July, there will be a temporary shift from train to bus services for a duration of three days.
From July 3rd at 10 PM to July 6th, 2025, passengers in Magdeburg's Kannenstieg neighbourhood will experience a change in their tram service as maintenance work takes place on Tram Line 1. The Magdeburg Transport Company GmbH & Co. KG (MVB) has implemented a replacement bus service (Schienenersatzverkehr, SEV) to keep commuters moving during this period.
The SEV buses will replace tram service between key stops such as Thüringenhalle, Stadion Nord, Tschaikowskistraße, and Am Schwemmbach. Passengers will need to transfer between the SEV bus and tram lines 2 and 3 at the Tschaikowskistraße stop. Additionally, bus lines 60 and 61 have been rerouted in the area, serving alternative stops like Kaffeetrichter, while certain stops like Landtag/Stadion Nord in the citybound direction will not be served by these buses during the construction period.
For those travelling between the Kastanienstraße stop and the Kannenstieg terminal, buses of Line 41 will serve as a replacement for Tram Line 1. During the interruption, Tram Line 1 will be diverted from the Klosterwuhne stop to the Neustädter See terminal. The buses operating as a replacement will serve all scheduled stops along the roadside, ensuring passengers can reach their destinations with minimal inconvenience.
The Kastanienstraße stop will remain operational during the interruption, allowing passengers to transfer to and from the buses. The MVB has ensured that the buses will be properly marked and identifiable as replacements for Tram Line 1, making it easy for passengers to find the right service.
The MVB will continue to monitor the bus service during the tram interruption to ensure smooth operations and address any issues that may arise. The company is responsible for ensuring that the buses serve all scheduled stops during the tram interruption, maintaining the regular schedule for Tram Line 1 to minimise delays for passengers.
The interruption is due to track maintenance work on a railway crossing. The MVB has communicated the changes in service to passengers, advising them of the bus replacement and the transfer point at the Kastanienstraße stop. Passengers on Tram Line 1 will have access to the same stops along the route during the interruption, served by buses instead of trams.
For those planning their journeys in the Kannenstieg neighbourhood during this period, it is recommended to check the MVB's website or mobile app for the latest information on service changes and updates. By staying informed and allowing extra travel time, commuters can ensure a smooth journey during the tram interruption.
The buses of Line 41 will serve as transport for passengers who would normally use Tram Line 1 between the Kastanienstraße stop and the Kannenstieg terminal, as the tram service is temporarily unavailable due to industry-related maintenance work on a railway crossing. Passengers should be aware that bus lines 60 and 61 have been rerouted in the area, serving alternative stops like Kaffeetrichter, while certain stops like Landtag/Stadion Nord in the citybound direction will not be served by these buses during the construction period. This change in transportation will be reflected in the public-transit schedule, with the MVB ensuring that the buses serve all scheduled stops along the roadside and maintain the regular schedule for Tram Line 1 to minimize delays for passengers.
