Next-Generation Mitsubishi Pajero to Debut in India: A Balance of Ruggedness and Modernity

Mitsubishi Motors is gearing up to roll out the next-generation Pajero, a premium SUV expected to make its way to Indian showrooms around late 2026 to early 2027. The new model aims to maintain the vehicle's iconic boxy silhouette while incorporating modern features and technologies.
The Pajero's next-gen model is poised to offer a balance between rugged off-road ability and a comfortable, modern interior. It is expected to feature a tall stance with an upright front end, updated bumpers, and a large skid plate. The rear end of the vehicle sports a slim, rectangular rear window and connected LED taillights, reminiscent of the Nissan Patrol.
Under the hood, the primary engine option for the next-gen Pajero is a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine, producing approximately 181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. There are also indications that the SUV could retain a 2.5L DI-diesel option and might introduce a hybrid powertrain similar to what Mitsubishi offers in their Outlander model. The exact hybrid availability and final engine tuning for India are not officially confirmed yet.
In terms of performance positioning, the Pajero aims to compete in the premium SUV segment against rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, with an estimated price range of ₹30-40 lakh ex-showroom in India. The vehicle will offer a 7-seater configuration, advanced features such as a 10-inch touchscreen, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, leather seats, and enhanced off-road competence.
The interior details of the next-gen Pajero are yet to be revealed, but it is expected to feature a modern, updated cabin. The SUV may also include a larger infotainment system, new upholstery, and vertically stacked LED DRLs flanking a wide grille. The powertrain choice for the next-gen Pajero may depend on its platform, with possibilities that it could share technology with the Mitsubishi Triton pickup or be based on the Outlander's CMF-C/D monocoque architecture, potentially offering a plug-in hybrid powertrain delivering up to 302 bhp.
