Free Wills Month: Get Your Will Written or Updated for Free

Free Wills Month, a charitable initiative, offers a unique opportunity for individuals aged 55 and over in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales. This month-long event allows participants to have their simple wills written or updated for free by participating solicitors. This service, not means-tested, aims to encourage more people to plan their estates and consider leaving gifts to charities.

An up-to-date will, written by a solicitor, ensures your wishes are respected and avoids potential legal complications for your loved ones. It is a legal document that divides your estate according to your desires after your death. Free Wills Month is open to both individuals and couples, with the requirement that at least one person is over the age of 55.

Leaving a charitable gift of 10% or more in your will can also reduce Inheritance Tax paid by your beneficiaries. This tax is currently set at 40% but can be lowered to 36% with such a donation. This encourages more people to support their chosen charities while planning their estates.

To participate in Free Wills Month, interested individuals should visit the official website, follow the instructions, and access details of local participating law firms. This initiative not only helps individuals plan their estates but also supports charities through potential legacies.
