France, Italy Top EU Beer Consumption; Netherlands Leads Exports
France and Italy have emerged as the leading beer consumers in the EU, purchasing 0.8 billion liters and 0.7 billion liters respectively. Meanwhile, the Netherlands remains the top beer exporter, despite a 12% decrease from 2023.
Germany continues to dominate beer production, accounting for 22.2% of the EU's total production with 7.2 billion liters. In terms of exports, the Netherlands leads with 1.5 billion liters, followed by the Czech Republic, which exports popular brands like 'Kozel'.
The EU's total beer production in 2024 reached 34.7 billion liters, with a significant 11.1% increase in demand for low-alcohol beer. High-strength beer production also saw a slight increase of 0.2% to 32.7 billion liters, according to Eurostat.
The beer market in the EU continues to be driven by France and Italy's high consumption, while the Netherlands maintains its position as the leading exporter. Germany's dominant production role persists, with a notable rise in demand for low-alcohol beer.
